History

Worthington OH Real Estate has a history of families in search of an ideal place to live. In 1803 James Kilbourne brought families from Massachusetts and Connecticut. They were looking to find land to build new communities on. Thomas Worthington helped him buy 16,000 acres in the new state of Ohio. A New England style village was created with lots that surrounded a town square. Eleven families settled here, and they named it after Worthington, who became a state senator and later governor. Worthington was a market center for the area in the 19th century. With the coming of electric street cars, it became a suburb of Columbus. Growth exploded and by World War Two it had gained city status. Growth has continued, especially with the completion of I-270.
