Upper Arlington, OH Real Estate and Community Information
Upper Arlington History
Upper Arlington, OH a family community of almost 34,000 residents, west of The Ohio State University and northwest of the city of Columbus, which is the capital of Ohio. Bordered on the west by the Scioto River and the east by the Olentangy River, it is an upscale area with top-rated public schools that excel in academics and sports. Upper Arlington OH real estate is a premium community because it is a beautiful area kept in pristine condition.
Many Upper Arlington OH homes are Victorian and Bungalow in style and nearly a century old. Some are the size of small castles and have the same appearance. There are newer, more contemporary homes north of Tremont Avenue and along the Scioto River. These Upper Arlington homes are equally sought out by homebuyers. However homes on the river have private boat docks.
Ohio was settled in the 1700s, but Upper Arlington started out as an 840-acre farm owned by James Miller. The Thompson brothers realtors, Ben and King, bought it in 1913 and developed it with the help of landscape architect William Pitkin, Jr. He planned out curving streets with an ample amount of trees that give the old historic district the look of an English village and most street names are English. Old Arlington was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
