It was not until 1810 and the arrival of the Sells family from Pennsylvania that this area began to grow. Having received 400 acres of land as a gift, John Sells moved his family to Ohio. With his partner, John Shields, Sells began surveying the area, then known only as Sells Settlement, for development. Sells chose to give his partner naming rights to the town. The beauty of the valley reminded Shields of his birthplace in Ireland, so he chose to name the new community Dublin. Dublin properties have evolved from being known as a rough frontier area, due to the number of saloon establishments in the late 1800s, to the very progressive and well managed city it is today.
